Maya Wedding Re-enactment July 2017

On the 6th of July, 2017, there was another Maya Wedding Re-enactment at the Chactemal (Santa Rita) Archaeological site. Again we have limited information because of the restrictive view of photographs and cooperation with local press. The shunning of potential support and publicity is very hard to understand.

The event was scheduled to start at 7pm. Due to some kind of miscommunication with BEL, the festivities were delayed for over an hour. When they finally got started, most people seemed to think it was worth the wait. There were probably about 125 in attendance.

The first thing attendees saw was the sign posted prohibiting camera and video equipment. It was unclear whether this included cell phone photos. We took some, but in the spirit of protecting the copyright of the event, we have processed the ones of the actual event to look like drawings instead of photos. If this is not allowed, we will remove them (along with all other information relating to the Maya wedding reenactments).

Before the dancing from the group from Chetumal Mr. Guadalupe Cima, served as the M.C. And Ruby Chan Conrad gave the history of the wedding, in the early 16th century. Then she and Mr. Cima did a verbal re-enactment of the wedding.

Then the dance group from Chetumal (anyone have their name?) gave about four dances. The images below will at least give you some idea of the presentation.
